Creative Ways to Boost Your Productivity

It’s true for everybody: some days are super-productive; and others, not so much. We all have our moments. But what if you could put a gold star on every day?

Here’s a hint: this isn’t about how technology or apps are going to make your life easier. It’s not about motivation, because that’s something you just can’t maintain—at least, not consistently. What it is about is your mindset.

The truth is, you can train yourself to switch gears at the right time and boost productivity in the process, even when motivation is in low gear. All it takes is a little practicality and some creative thinking to keep those sparks flying.

Here are our top tips on how to boost your productivity every single day:

1. Accept that you will fail

You probably know some successful people. They are that way for a reason – and it’s not because they have horseshoes or a crystal ball. What they do have is perseverance. They don’t give up, even when the going gets tough. If they face rejection, they keep trying until they get results. One of the things that makes it easy for them to keep on going is that they have a system in place for when failure looms. When it does happen, they default to their system and carry on.

How to do this:

  1. Make a list of everything you need to do to reach your target.
  2. Template those steps so you can maintain the pace.

For instance, say you are trying to land an agent or a publisher for your book. First, you would make a list of your prospects. You would then prepare your query letter and make sure your manuscript is ready to go. If you receive a rejection, you don’t linger on it, you just move on to the next name on the list.

2. Calendar your tasks

Scheduling your tasks is a helpful exercise, especially if you have several different projects on the go at any given time. It also helps to alleviate any burnout you might feel with any one task.

How to do this:

  1. Put your tasks into your calendar or to-do list.
  2. Allocate a set amount of time for each task.
  3. Set an alarm so that you switch gears after, say, a couple of hours (or whatever works for you).

When you’re aware of what you have on your plate ahead of time, you won’t be as likely to lose faith and do nothing when your momentum starts to wane.

3. Resist the urge to multitask

Multitasking may seem like a good idea and, for a while, you might actually get a lot accomplished. But it’s not sustainable. Taking on multiple tasks at once will only slow down your work on all of them.

How to do this: give each task 100 percent of your focus, and you’ll be knocking them down like toy soldiers.

Faces of Weston with Samuel Rubert

Did you know that there is a field in Alcohol & Beverage Law?  Neither did we until Samuel Rubert joined Lakeside.  We had the pleasure of sitting down with him and learning more about his unique business.  Samuel Rubert Law is a full-service law firm specializing in the alcoholic beverage industry.

They represent industry members, restaurants, bars, hotels, liquor stores, brewers, distillers, wineries, and wholesalers in all of their legal needs.  They manage transactions, including purchases and sales of business and assets, stock sales, leasing, and coordinate financing for our clients.  They represent them in obtaining all of the necessary licenses and permits to operate an alcoholic beverage business, including federal, state, and local licensing.  And when their clients need it, they aid in litigation with the regulating agencies (administrative litigation) as well as commercial litigation over contracts.

Samuel has an interesting journey into law and the alcoholic beverage industry.  After graduating from Columbia University with a bachelor’s degree in Math and Religion, he enrolled in culinary school at the French Culinary Institute in NYC.  “I wanted to explore the field after working as a bar back and bartender in college.”

After graduating, he began working at a 3-starred restaurant as a line cook.  Although he fell in love with the industry, working nights, weekends and holidays was not appealing.  So, he made the decision to enroll in law school at the University of Miami.  “I was hoping to be a ‘restaurant lawyer,’ not knowing if such a thing existed and I was fortunate to find a lawyer to mentor me, and the rest is history,” Samuel recalls.

When asked what is something most people don’t know about your industry, Samuel laughed and said, “that the alcoholic beverage industry even exists”.  He continued, “most people don’t even think that there are Alcoholic Beverage Law attorneys.  Most people think attorneys spend all day in court or on real estate transactions, but when you stop to think about the fact that there are TWO (2) Constitutional Amendments relating to alcohol and counting all of the alcoholic beverage outlets you pass on your way to work every day, you start to realize how heavily regulated and widespread the industry is.  These businesses have unique and particular needs that vary, sometimes slightly and sometimes greatly, from most other businesses, and we provide the insight and expertise they require.”

Samuel stays busy expanding his client base further throughout the state and country; but also finds time to spend with his family.  He enjoys traveling with his wife and daughters and opening up his daughters’ eyes to what a big world we live in with endless possibilities.

He also enjoys cooking, especially ‘low and slow’ barbecue, middle eastern food, and pasta.  “I also enjoy riding my bike to burn off all of those delicious calories,” Samuel adds.

Lakeside Executive Suites has been a great home for Samuel Rubert Law due to its proximity to his house, major roadways and reasonable pricing.  “I have stayed (and I love Lakeside) because of the people that work here (both staff and other tenants).”  Samuel continues, “I have had offices in other shared spaces, and this is by far the best.  The camaraderie, events, and value are as good as I have been around.  While I hope to grow my business, I hope I never outgrow Lakeside.”

How to Grow and Expand Your Business With a Virtual Office

Starting a new business can be a serious drain on your finances. If you are like many startups, you are likely launching with a small team—possibly only yourself—and finding ways to stay lean as you establish yourself is crucial. A virtual office is a great way to grow and expand your business, offering all the amenities of a corporate office without the big overhead.

Need more convincing? Here are more ways a virtual office can help you get your business off the ground:

1.    Gain credibility

No matter how brilliant your product or service is, your company won’t have the same cachet if your business address is your home. A virtual office package gives you a business address and much more besides, such as live telephone answering services, mail handling, and more. Having a professional image goes a long way to instilling confidence in what you have to offer, and it may well help you advance more quickly than you would be able to while working from home.

2.    Flexibility

Remaining agile, especially in the early stages, is something to strive for. A virtual office is a nimble solution as you can have access to high-end office amenities like meeting rooms, coworking spaces, and administrative support on-demand. This means that you’ll only pay for what you need when you need it. The rest of the time, you can save the money you would normally be spending for your office lease and channel it into something more useful, like technology, innovation or marketing.

3.    Expand to new locations

If you are unsure of whether your business is going to fly, a virtual office space is a way to test the waters. It reduces the risk you would typically take on while entering new markets, allowing you to have a local presence in uncharted territory without having to outfit a new office. The low operating costs along with the month-to-month terms supports your needs without compromise – and if things don’t work out, you can move on without a lot of trouble.

4.    Hire top talent from around the world

Think of what you can do with all the money you won’t be spending on office space! When you’re not locked into a location, that portion of your budget can be freed up to hire top talent from anywhere in the world. Whether you are building a global team or just looking for some freelance expertise to support some of your projects, a virtual office gives you the freedom to work the way you want to work. Since your business isn’t tied to a physical location, you can make hiring decisions that are not based on how close a person lives to your office.

Lakeside Executive Suites in Weston, FL, offers affordable virtual office packages to help your business grow. Call today to learn more about what a virtual office can do for you.
